We made a trip to Fort Lewis this weekend. From day to day it is hard to tell there is a war on. I have seen it in the news and read it in the paper but had not seen the effects first hand. That being said there is something I don’t like about civilians manning check-points on military bases. It doesn’t seem right. It isn’t like Fort Lewis is a small base either. It is the second largest land area base in the US, second only to Fort Hood. It’s a good thing we have a: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state”….. Oh wait, they’re deployed.
Of course there are other things to worry about these days. Take the conversation I overheard from the table next to me at breakfast yesterday. Julie and I were eating breakfast at a small restaurant outside of Tacoma and the people next to us had just bought a second vacation home on one of the islands. Apparently it was getting to inconvenient to take the ferry with everyone else to the island. They we arguing over breakfast over weather they needed a bigger boat or a seaplane…… Its rough being rich sometimes, having to keep up with the Jones’s. I don’t know what Julie and I will do if we don’t get our kicker checks this year. I guess we’ll just have to wait another month for that vacation home on Maui…

Yep, that is it. That is the theme for this year’s Polk County Fair... I wonder if they will be passing out velcro gloves at the 4H barn.
Seriously, though. If you’re every driving though Polk County on your way to someplace else and its early August then take to time to stop by the fair. Its cheap, admission includes parking. It is what I figured county fairs used to be. There aren’t a lot of rides and most all of the booths are run by local civic organizations. My favorite is the bingo booth. There are the usual 4H barns and FFA displays to cruise through. It’s a fun time, it doesn’t take a long time to get through either.

Dallas, what can say?
So I am driving through town with my brother-in-law... (hereafter to be referred to as "broffer".... maybe I'll post the story some time) and we pass the North Dallas Bar and Grill. Thats when he notices that somebody has driven their riding lawnmower to the bar. It was parked right next to a golf cart(No golf courses within a couple of miles). I thought this only happened in bad comedies based on SNL sketches. Why would somebody do that? You aren't going to avoid a DUII, if anything, getting a DUII on a riding lawnmower is just going to help it make the news....
More to come..
